Grupo Cosmos 21 made its first public appearance in February 1988 at
Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, within a season of “Young Composers”
sponsored by CDMC (Centre for Broadcasting of Contemporary Music). They
have performed in “Aula de Reestrenos” of J. March Foundation,
International Festival of Contemporary Music in Alicante, Contemporary
Music Week in Granada, Regular Sessions of CDMC in CBA (Círculo de
Bellas Artes) and National Auditory of Spain, Autumn Festival (Cuenca),
M. Botín Foundation, El Ferrol International Festival; and in numerous
seas of twentieth century music all throughout Spain (Oviedo, Málaga,
Segovia, Madrid, Barcelona, Cuenca, Gijón, Barcelona...). Their last
tours have been by Japan and Italy and in the International Festivals La
Habana (Cuba), Trieste Prima (Italia and Slovenia), ENSEMS (Spain),…
They have recorded almost all their repertoire for RNE (Spanish National
Radio). They have recorded monographic CDs of C. Galán (“Cántico de amor
del suicida” -Love song of the suicidal- EMEC E - 011) and they have
prepared 5 CD´s encasing the last works commissioned by the group, of
Carlos Galán, Llorenç Barber and G. Fernández Álvez. In 1987, when
Carlos Galán began to think about the creation of a chamber group, with
famous soloists of some main orchestras from Spain, his foremost
motivation was to devote their effort to the works of the last thirty
years. Many composers, attracted by the rigorous work and the high grade
of the concerts of Grupo Cosmos 21, have invested works to them, or
entrusted them their premieres: (C. Cruz de Castro, T. Marco, R. Barce,
G. P. Coral, M. Pittino, S. Procaccioli, J. L. Turina, F. Palacios,
J.Villa Rojo, C. Galán, D. Zimbaldo, J. Soler and so on) .
Working conditions for the settings of each work are planned with widely
anticipation before the premiere, to allows a technical and aesthetic
exhaustive maturation of the group performance. Cosmos 21 keep also
bearing extra - musical aspects in mind such costumes, motion,
scenography, etc, that configurates a choreography of a staging, about
the musical fact of the twentieth century, that is plenty of vitality.
The design of their last wardrobe is done by the painter M. Prieto.
It has celebrated their 10th Anniversary in 1998, offering a tour at the
most important Festivals and Auditories of Spain with a program based in
“Divertimenti” commissioned to famous Spanish composers, with a
scenography designed for this special celebration. For 15th aniversary,
they have presented 6 CDs, including the last works comissioned by the
group, the complete Matteric Music of C. Galán and Italian Music.
It has made tours by America, Italy, Japan and Spain.
“Concerto grosso” for the Cosmos 21 and the ORCAM, world premiered in
the Auditorio Nacional de Música of Madrid. Integral of the Matteric
Music in 3 CD (Iberautor). Monographics in 2007 of the Matteric Music of
C. Galán in Madrid and Valencia and of A. Barja and Viena´s School and
minimal music for the Fundation Juan March(2008).
In his 20 anniversary, America Tour, cycles in Valencia, Murcia, Fund.
J. March and C. Duque (Madrid) and recorder a double Cd for VERSO
(Compositores Madrileños del XXI). Commemorative’s sculpture of I. Cano.
It plays in the opera a·Babel in the scenario of the Teatro de la
Zarzuela.
For the XXV Anniversary, world tour by Cuba (XXV La Habana Festival) and
XXV Trieste Contemporanea. Concerts in Italy and Slovenia. Port-folio of
the famous painter Gustavo Torner.
It founded the "Músicas del Cosmos" Festival, with anual cicles in
Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla, Cordoba, Salamanca, Ciudad Real
and Murcia.
